Contest brief

What makes a winning name?

A few honest guidelines to help you craft an entry the judges can fall in love with.

i.

Convey precision and strength.

This is an aerospace and high-tech engineering brand. The name should feel engineered, robust and serious — never light or playful.

ii.

Hint at signal, frequency or shielding.

A subtle nod to RF, EMI control, or wave physics is welcome — without being literal or technical jargon.

iii.

Be memorable and pronounceable.

Short is great. Easy to say aloud is better. Easy to spell after hearing it once is best.

iv.

Honour the Indian heritage — if you can.

Sanskrit, regional language roots, or a nod to Indian engineering excellence are welcome but not required.

v.

Avoid trademarked terms.

Names that conflict with existing aerospace or electronics brands won't qualify. A quick search before submitting is wise.

The judges

Hand-picked by the SLTL leadership.

Entries are reviewed by a panel from across SLTL — leadership from the RF & Microwave Division, R&D, brand, and engineering teams. Selection criteria include relevance, originality, clarity, and how naturally the name reflects the work.

  • Eligibility Students only
  • Entries per person One per email
  • Rights to the name Transferred to SLTL on winning

The contest is open to all students — undergraduate, postgraduate, or otherwise. No specific course or college is required. A valid student email or institution name is enough.
One entry per email address. If you have more than one idea, pick your strongest — judges value clarity of thought as much as the name itself.
Winners are contacted directly by email after the close of submissions. Shortlisted names may also be featured on SLTL's social channels — with permission.
Yes. International student entries are welcome. PPI offers and gift fulfilment may vary by region — we'll coordinate directly with winners.
By submitting, you agree that if your name is selected, the rights transfer to SLTL for use as the RF & Microwave Division's identity. Non-winning entries remain with their authors.
SLTL reserves the right to extend or modify the deadline. Any change will be published on this page and shared via the contest's social channels.
