LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA exhibition will prove to be an important gateway for the growth and use of lasers and optoelectronics for the tool making and machine manufacturing industry in India.

LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA which is entering into its 3rd Edition will take place at Bangalore International Exhibition Center (BIEC), Bengaluru from 23 – 25 September 2014. The event will prove to be an important gateway for the growth and use of lasers and optoelectronics for the tool making and machine manufacturing industry in India. Precision in product development is one of the key factors contributing to the growth of this market.

Laser is the ideal tool for macro and micro processing of all kinds of material, be it for cutting, welding, forming or marking, to only name a few. Laser technology combines precision in the range of 100 microns with lowest possible mechanical and thermal load of sensitive pieces. The efficient use of laser technology offers various possibilities to the tool and mould making industry for replacing conventional methods with laser processing. Advances in lasers’ power, improved cutting speeds, edge quality, and lower operating costs has opened more avenues for use of the technology.

In one of the most common applications, the laser cutting, laser machines allow metal fabricators to create high-quality parts that require very little, if any, finishing work. It is a manufacturing process which can eliminate the need for machining on many engineering jobs enabling the customers to reduce their manufacturing costs. Numerous materials that can be cut using laser cutting machines include ceramics, plastics, textile, precious and non-ferrous metals, stainless and high alloyed steel among others.

The precision levels and edge quality achieved with laser cutting machines are better than traditional cutting methods, as the laser beam will not wear during the laser cutting process and there is less opportunity for the material to become contaminated. Laser cutting technology also enables the machinist to cut complex shapes without the need for tooling and at a similar or faster speed than other cutting methods. Laser cutting machines are distinct from traditional mechanical cutters.

Mr. N Shikarkhane, Scantech Laser Pvt. Ltd. explains, “Laser cutting machines are integrated with a computer-controlled programming system which determines where and how the cut has to be made on the material. This makes the work easier compared to the traditional tools used. It is only the precision and speed of laser that can make the process simpler and faster and thus cheaper”.

The machines offer a substantial number of benefits for consideration when selecting a cutting device. Besides its described advantages over conventional mechanical cutting, laser cutting is also a relatively noiseless process. As the machine does not require human involvement except for repairs and test runs, the occurrence of accidents and injuries is also reduced. Safety of running laser machines is very important and, as a result, laser machines have to be fully enclosed in order to prevent accidents. Safety precautions also include compulsory regulations imposed by government for use of laser machines.

Dr. Arvind Patel, Managing Director, Sahajanand Laser Technology says, “Enhanced productivity in line manufacturing, coupled with low failure rate would play a vital role towards India’s ambitions in become a key manufacturing power-house in the region. LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2014 would showcase the use of Lasers in precision engineering to vastly improve manufacturing processes and hence the quality of production”.

Mr. Bhupinder Singh – Acting CEO, MMI India adds “LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2014 will bring together suppliers of laser and laser systems for any material and any processing application and will thus help to improve quality and productivity in all branches of industry.”
